Ivan Malekin

Festival Director

Ivan Malekin found film with a little serendipity back in 2007 and has never looked back.  He is an award-winning producer, director and editor, his films ranging from the dark and poignant to the raw and riotous.

His 2012 feature film, Dace Decklan: Private Eye, is insane, picking up an apt award at the notorious Melbourne Underground Film Festival, and available exclusively on Monster Box TV courtesy of Monster Pictures.

He is the Founder and Director of the Made In Melbourne Film Festival, now in its eighth year as the only festival exclusively for Victorian filmmakers. Ivan also founded and ran Melbourne's premier monthly film event, Short Cut, from 2010 to 2012, and in 2014 he curated the cinema component of monthly film, comedy, and burlesque variety night Theatre Nuevo.

In 2014 Ivan was added to the Master List of Independent Filmmakers compiled by veteran indie movie-maker Bill Mousoulis, and also selected for the 'Top 50 Australian Independent Film Heroes' list.  In addition to MIM, Ivan runs Nexus Production Group, a prolific film production collective driven by creativity, originality, and passion.

Sarah Jayne

Coordinator & Social Media Manager

Sarah fell into an Art Department role back in 2006 and immediately found an outlet for her imagination and visual mind.

Sarah has worked on numerous short and feature films, including the critically acclaimed Taj, the one and only Dace Decklan: Private Eye, Oddball starring Shane Jacobson, and The Subjects by Instinct Entertainment.  In 2013, she broadened her film-making horizons further; writing, producing and directing Dusk, her first short film.

In 2015 Sarah Jayne wrote and directed her second film, Anniversary, which was shot in one day and created as a warm up for her biggest project, Daughter, which was to come in September the same year.

Daughter is a short film and awareness project which follows three women on a night out in St Kilda who are drawn together through an act of violence. Daughter tackles gendered violence and victim blaming and is a proud recipient of the Cultural Development Fund through the City of Port Phillip.

Sarah works side by side with Festival Director Ivan in the Nexus Production Group studio, promoting and marketing MIM, and liaising with suppliers, designers, and filmmakers and has been a part of the team since 2009. The first festival night saw her as door person, where she was the face of the festival, greeting people on arrival to Loop Bar and selling tickets. She went away to Sydney briefly in 2012 but on return to Melbourne in 2013 Sarah Jayne has taken on an active role working along side Ivan with the day to day running of the festival, attending meetings and promoting Made In Melbourne Film Festival to the masses.

Along with her film and festival responsibilities, Sarah is also a published freelance writer, model and art director.
